Denver B-cycle Anniversary Party - Friday, April 22 at 7PM

By  Apr 18, 2011 | 3:00AM

The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (MCA Denver) and Denver B-cycle are proud to announce the Denver B-cycle Anniversary Party, thanking the thousands of supporters who have helped make Denver B-cycle a success. On Friday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m., MCA Denver will be hosting Denver B-cycle’s anniversary and Earth Day celebration, sponsored by New Belgium Brewing.

The public is invited to celebrate last year’s success of B-cycle and Earth Day at MCA Denver. Denver B-cycle Annual Members and MCA Denver members receive free admission to the event. Admission cost for non-B-cycle or MCA members is 1 cent. Capacity is limited, so everyone is asked to RSVP - http://denverbcycleanniversaryparty.eventbrite.com/.  New Belgium Brewing will be part of the celebration, as well as B-cycle gold sprints, a photo booth, and food trucks. Throughout the night, two musical guests will be entertaining the crowd – Denver’s own DJ’s Double//Shadow as well as local songwriter Patrick Dethlefs (www.patrickdethlefs.com).

There will be chances to sign up for or renew B-cycle annual memberships for a special rate of $49 – the lowest price offer for the year. Furthermore, the first 50 annual members who bring in a friend who signs up as a new annual member at the event will receive two Chipotle burrito bucks, each good for a FREE Chipotle Burrito, burrito bowl or order of tacos.

As part of Earth Day, Denver B-cycle and MCA Denver are encouraging attendees to get to the event by bike, walking or public transportation. Bike parking will be available at the event, and MCA Denver is just blocks from Union Station, easily accessible by light rail (www.rtd-denver.com). Additional sustainability components of the event include the fact that the venue is a LEED Gold certified building. Compostable products, locally grown food and onsite recycling will be offered; and event planners will use the VISITDENVER carbon calculator to estimate the celebration’s carbon footprint and offset it with a donation to the Colorado Carbon Fund.

MCA Denver is located at 1485 Delgany St., Denver, CO 80202. Parking is available in the parking garage just across 15th Street from MCA Denver.

First Year Success

Denver B-cycle first launched on Earth Day 2010. The program’s inaugural season ended on December 5, with 500 bikes at 50 stations. In that first year, Denver B-cycle reached 102,981 rides and 211,111 miles around the Denver area. These 211,111 equated to 6,333,332 calories burned and 1,810 lbs were shed in weight loss.

Keeping people on B-cycles and out of cars not only created increased health benefits but also saved on carbon emissions. According to a survey of Denver B-cycle members, 43.16% of Denver B-cycle trips replaced car trips, avoiding 312,121 lbs. of carbon emissions and 15,868 gallons of gasoline not used on fuel for car transportation. In money alone, that would save an estimated $41,256 on not purchasing gasoline and $311,126 savings on downtown parking.
